Girl in Pieces
I bought this book from Changing Hands because they had a little tag next to the display letting me know that the author was local. I think we all know how much I love supporting Arizonans so I happily shelled out my coins for this gem.
YA lit gets a really bad reputation. I'm not sure why people hate on it so hard because a lot of young adult fiction makes for a damn good read.
This book is no exception. It's a beautiful story of self hate/self love, overcoming obstacles that life gives us and the obstacles we create for ourselves, with a touch of a love story thrown in for good measure. There were so many aspects of the story that I was worried a lot of loose ends would be left at the end of the book but Kathleen Glasgow was a damn queen and somehow managed to tie everything together in the end without it feeling rushed or trite.
To be totally honest, this is one of my favorite books I've read in a while. It's not lighthearted but if you want a quick read that feels genuine and real, this is what you need in your life.
