Is it cheating for my once a week blogging goal to review each of the 52 books I plan to read this year? What's that you say? You're a reader and I'm the boss so I don't care if it's cheating or not? Ok cool so glad we're on the same page.
The first book of the year was Bandit. I'm sort of on a dad/cancer/grief/trauma kick with my reading so this book totally fit the bill. Bandit tells the story of a daughter with a conflicted relationship with her bank-robber father. The author is a poet so the prose is actually really beautiful and although it is a memoir, it has a distinct poetic feeling to it. The story is strong and her analysis of her relationship to her father and its impact on her life (both as a child and through adolescence and adulthood) is really fascinating. I think the end got a little long but all in all I'd say it's worth the read.
