I'm having a moment with Tucson
I grew up with parents that went to Arizona State University. My dad played football there in the 70's and walked away from school with an engineering degree and a wholesome hatred for the University of Arizona. Growing up, I genuinely believed that if you spent time in Tucson that you had to throw away everything you had taken with you because it was tainted by the UofA.
So, you can imagine my genuine surprise when I visited Tucson for the first time as an adult and....sort of....loved it. A dear friend of mine from high school was getting married and I booked a night at a cute Air BnB and spent time with some other friends that had migrated south after high school. They showed me around town and I couldn't believe it. There were cute shops and restaurants at every turn and the buildings were dotted with gorgeous murals. It felt like the entire city was tucked neatly into the desert landscape and there was this distinct culture of creatives that gave the best energy to the town.
Fast forward a few years and Tucson is one of my favorite places to visit. I can't go to town without a visit to Penca for some of the best mexican food I've had in my life (get the pozole and the red sangria) and each time I visit I stumble onto new places that make my heart skip a beat.
I spent an afternoon wandering around town in early February and am finally sitting down to share some little peeks into this sweet city.
